Habitually consuming higher levels of vitamin B6 and methionine, an amino acid, can reduce risk of lung cancer by at least 50 percent. When levels of folic acid are also higher, risk of the cancer is reduced by two-thirds. These are the conclusions of a study that examined blood samples of nearly 2,700 people in Europe, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Methionine is found in meat, fish, dairy, and other protein-rich foods, as well as protein powders. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) and folic acid are found in a variety of whole foods and in B complex and multivitamin supplements.
